About Rogers 350 Years CT/NY/PA
I started this webpage to sort and record 20 years paper records gathered by my father and me on our line of the Rogers' family, with the goal of tracing our lineage back to England. Little did I know what I'd find.

We have a Revolutionary War veteran in the family which I am currently documenting for membership in the DAR (Daughters of the Revolution). And the religious founder of the "Rogerens" New London, CT or the "Rogerene Quakers" as they were called MAY be in your blood.

In 2008 we went to Elk County, PA for research. We visited the historic societies of Ridgeway and Brookville, took photos of grave markers and made our way to the Brookville courthouse. We made new discoveries including the name of my father's 6th generation ancestor, Calvin Rogers (1823-1908) of Brookville, PA. The question became who is Calvin Rogers' father? The only thing to go on was the grave marker of his mother, Huldah Olmsted, who shares a burial plot with her son.

Without proof of father I was stuck, then I just started searching in every direction. Events were not well documented before the mid-1800 like they are now and woman were even less documented (e.g.: Mrs. Harry Smith). During the American Revolution many records were burned. I was determined to figure it out. Limited to only FREE searches I eventually made connections via Huldah Marvin, Calvin's mother.

The 2010 DNA results from FamilytreeDNA confirmed my father is descentant of Adam Rogers, the mulatto(ca 1670). There are detailed published histories of Adam Rogers and wife Katherine Jones including his decending family tree and the controversy around his parentage. His family tree was corrected and published in the US National Archives by Mark Merrit in 1996.

So on this family tree I begin with Adam Rogers (ca 1670) using many well documented sources. We split from Adam's tree at Gurdon Rogers, Sr. There is no birth certificate found for Calvin Rogers of Brooksville, all documentation points to Gurdon Rogers, Jr. of East Haddam, CT to be his father. This tree ends with my youngest nephew born 2000.

Along this time of 350 years we grow fat and narrow. I've figured it out it my head, the challenge is now indexing 20 years of paper sources and loads of electronic sources. So be patient it's coming. I hope you enjoy traveling through this family tree.

WANTED:

Photos of Calvin Rogers (1823-1908), Huldah Olmsted and others in our line of Rogers. The family bible was passed on to another relative by June Rogers in the 1980's. I'd LOVE to have a photo copy of the family records inside of this bible.

NOTE: It is believed that John Rogers, founder of the Rogerenes, fathered Adam. DNA testing has been done and evidence surely points in that direction. Books, academic papers and Conn. probate documents point to John being Adam's father. I can not make that claim here but there are significant DNA breakthroughs backing this to be case. Also detailed history by Jonathan Swift Rogers, Dr. Benjamin Trumbull on the Rogers family, both are heavily relied upon in genealogical circles so many Rogers histories include these errors. Some historic works go down the road of Adam Rogers, others not. My go to resource "Early Lands of the Rogers Family in the Foxtown Area (Millington Society) of East Haddam, Connecticut" by James A. Rogers, 2011.

This is an ongoing project (2013).
